PREGOBLIN are South London duo Alex Sebley and Jessica Winter.
Following the release of their debut single, the eternally catchy disco-synth romp ‘Combustion’, the duo have been gradually amassing an undeniably impressive list of accolades and achievements. An imposing festival performance at East London’s Visions, support slots with Black Lips and a seeming artistic residency on any show Fat White Family embark on to name a few.
Proceeding these successes comes the follow up single ‘Anna (Flowers Won’t Grow), a track somewhat cheerily inspired by heartbreak and longing induced by the conclusion of a long-term relationship. Perhaps expectedly, it’s a more demure affair to its predecessor. However, it’s nevertheless propelled by the same dynamic disco-synth textures and delightfully off-kilter pop vocals.
Most impressively, ‘Combustion’ had all the hallmarks of a trailblazing single, and the pitfall of never quite living up to the exultation loomed large with this proposition. And while this is definitely a different approach, it reaches the same level with ease, all while providing a different string to their bow.
2020 looks set to be a good year for PREGOBLIN.
