Gaffa Tape Sandy anticipate their upcoming EP with playful taster track, ‘Headlights’. Celebrating the band signing to well-loved indie label Alcopop! Records, the track firmly places them on the radar ahead of the upcoming festival season.
The single catapults us towards summer with every listen: it’s upbeat, riff-filled garage rock, and undeniably catchy. It manages to feel hopeful despite facilitating a difficult exploration of mental health. The layered duel vocals mimic a conversation, one that wouldn’t seem out of place between two best mates. With back and forth singing contributing to a great rhythm, the lyrics are significant and universally relatable, maintaining an open discussion around feelings we all experience. The band state that they want the track to “serve as a reminder to check up on your loved ones in this busy stupid world”. The chorus crashes together with the line “I think you’re a little bit sadder that you let on”, it’s sad but comforting, and by the time the song comes to a close, it’s likely you’ve cracked a smile for that reason.
The band have supported the likes of Peace and IDLES, and will be touring all over throughout the next few months before releasing their new EP. Keep an eye out, we are expecting big things from this optimistic pop-rock trio.
