Trudy & the Romance announce debut album Sandman

Trudy and the Romance announce their debut album, Sandman, with stunning new single ‘The Original Doo-Wop Spacemen’

The Merseyside go-getters have lifted the veil on their much-anticipated debut album, Sandman and have set the bar astronomically high with their phenomenal psychedelic thriller ‘The Original Doo-Wop Spacemen’.

‘Doo-Wop Spacemen’ is an aural extravaganza, packed with a dazzling spectrum of sound pulled right out of Phil Spector’s playbook, whilst incorporating the new album’s nods to golden age icons Jonathan Richman, Louis Prima, and Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson. Trudy and the Romance have pulled out all the stops for their debut, crafting an album with all the makings of a megahit. “We directed this like a blockbuster, with characters and a story,” Trudy’s singer Olly explains. “We worked with a pianist, 1940s Disney choir, county pedal steel guitar player, film score violinist and harpist. It’s heart-warming and gently creeps up on you. It’s not tugging but just kind-of-there!”

Recorded with producer David Pye (Wild Beasts), Sandman draws the listener further into the trio’s colourful world, and follows the latest escapades of its central protagonist, little Johnny, and his inner turmoil. “It’s a coming of age tale about asking for your innocence back. It’s a breakup album and loosely based on the hero’s journey,” Olly says. Rocking and reeling through dreamy harmonies and dazzling guitars it’s everything good pop music should be – catchy, clever and brimming with curiously wonderful characters in Trudy’s inimitable realistic-cartoon narrative.
2018 was a groundbreaking year for the band after playing some of their biggest shows to date including a sell-out performance at London’s Moth Club, but with a stellar new record on the way, a spring UK tour and a spot at SXSW in Texas, Trudy are already set for their biggest year yet.
