From a song with such a complicated title, you would have been totally understood for not expecting something so accessible. LA-based indie-rockers Liily have certainly made sure to start their music careers with a bang, finding themselves as one of BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders Top Tips for 2019, and it’s no surprise.
‘Sepulveda Basin’ is exactly what you’d expect from an LA rock band. It’s cool, it’s thumping, and it’s ideal for a good sing along and a headbang (if you’re that way inclined) and lyrically looking at the pleasures and frustrations of their hometown.
One of the issues you can find, particularly in new bands, is a lack of self-assurance but luckily Liily have self-assurance in spades; their vocalist delivering loud, catchy hooks, and the rest of the band fitting together like a well-oiled machine. A truly special thing for a band this new. From the ominous opening bass, to the anthemic final chorus, there’s a bunch on offer here to sink your teeth into.
