Ahead of our show at the Finsbury on Saturday night, we caught up with main support Vienna Youth, following the release of their excellent EP.
Hey, how are you? Could you introduce yourselves?
Hey, yeah we’re good thank you. So we have Vee on vocals, Danny on lead guitar, Harri on drums and Max on bass.
How are you enjoying London now you’re there permanently?
It’s so good, it’s just Vee and Danny in London at the moment, Harri will be coming up to London next year.
Max is up in Cardiff doing his 2nd year of university.
Do you miss Devon?
Yes and no, we have adjusted well up here and it’s been a good move for us. Devon will still be there when we need it.
Could you name a few bands from back home that we should be checking out?
Southwest Hotel are incredible – ones to watch out for.
Who would you say are your biggest influences?
There are so many to choose from.. Slowdive, DIIV, Mac Demarco, The xx, Alvvays, Cigarettes After Sex, The Cure, Splashh, Foals…
Are you excited to catch the other acts at Blogtober? What have you got planned for us?
Yeah, we are really excited, should be a good night. We’ll be playing songs from the EP.
What can we expect from the EP?
The EP has a twist on the classic shoegaze genre with a punch and a more modern flare
What’s your favourite song from the EP? Could you tell us about it?
‘Hiding Minds’ is definitely up there, this song, in particular, has been there since the beginning, one of the first songs we wrote, it’s always been in every set and its what we end our gigs with.
What’s next on the horizon for Vienna Youth?
With university, we’ll probably be slowing down to concentrate on studies. London is our new home. It’s a new journey for us so we don’t know what’s next. But anything could happen so we’ll stay open-minded.
What does Vienna Youth listen to when they’re together?
Depends who’s car we go in, if it’s Vee’s car the aux is shared.
We’ll listen to so many different artists like Yellow Days, Mac Demarco, Slowdive, DIIV and many more.
