What’s New? Indoor Pets – Hi

‘Hi’ is the second release from Indoor Pets (prev. Get Inuit) since their recent name change, following debut cracker ‘So Soon’. The opening verse hears Jamie Glass listing things he’ll never do: graduate, put that right, get that high horse. The drums and bass are humble but lock down a solid rhythm, while a warbling guitar line subtly fills in the remaining space. Glass’ vocal is isolated as he sings a final “I’ll never get that” before everything opens up: “Hiiiiiiigh / I’ll never get that high”. Previous single ‘Barbiturates’ made it clear that one of the band’s major strengths is coupling creeping verses with explosive refrains, and ‘Hi’ follows this blueprint to a T. Clocking in at just over 3 mins and 12 seconds, there’s no filler as Indoor Pets deliver yet another masterclass in their trademark sound. They’ll never get that high, and at this rate we’ll never get enough.
