If you can’t tell already, TMB is not just a music lovers’ blog – we also go mad for dogs. A track which combines the two? Try and hold us back. We want to pet it and hug it and listen to it all at the same time. With that in mind, imagine the intense glee we felt when we heard ‘Jerry’, the new single and ode-to-dog from Heavenly Recordings’ new signing Boy Azooga.
Stepping back from the intense afropunk-inspired party-prog of earlier singles, the new track finds Davey Newington’s project relaxing into a new rhythm. Characterised by Flyte-like harmonies and Jonathan Richman‘s way with an innocent melody, ‘Jerry’ is an unanswered stream of questions lilting over jangling guitars and cushioning synths.
The accompanying video is an endearing trip to the dogs’ home with band in full costume. Boy Azooga are the dog’s proverbials.
