Sound the Matt Maltese alarm!
Waltzing in with a pop-grunge bassline and tightly clipped drums, the south-London crooner has ditched the piano (briefly, he reassures us) and continues his quest to spread his distinctive brand of sardonic, soaring anthems with ‘Greatest Comedian’. Lyrically, it’s John Cooper Clarke‘s I Wanna Be Yours for a cynical age or Father John Misty for those who prefer their songwriters without an inflated sense of importance, and finds Maltese applauding God for the pains of a long distance relationship over swelling brass, courtesy of producer Foxygen‘s Jonathan Rado.
With a debut album set for release sometime in the sunny months, expect to spend a fourth Summer of Love swooning at his feet – Matt Maltese is the only drug we need.
