What’s New? Boy Azooga – Loner Boogie

If Boy Azooga’s first single took turns to hint at Metronomy, William Onyeabor and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, new cut ‘Loner Boogie’ is aiming for a completely different audience. If taken at face-value, it parades as wonky-rock, hiding the band as one of many amongst Spring King, Our Girl and Team Picture. It’s a different story under the surface though, as jungle rhythms collide with rabid riffs and an uninterested vocal snarls a tale of isolation, indifference and intrigue.

Arriving with news of a debut album in June via Heavenly Recordings, the almost title track (the album cribs a lyric from ‘Loner Boogie’) is a highly-charged, slightly sleazy earworm guaranteed to persuade any reluctant recluse onto the dancefloor.
