Memorials of Distinction is a label dedicated to bringing bedroom music into the open and so to aid them in their crusade against reclusive superstars, we’re premiering the video for their latest project to be dragged into daylight – just like the confrontational parent TMB is.
Tree House, the originally solo project of Will Fortna, is not, of course, our antisocial child. The minimalist textures of debut EP Into the Ocean were initially a consequence of combining the paper thin walls of Fortna’s Brooklyn apartment and uptight neighbours; now, ‘Nonsense’ relishes in soft, post-slumber silences and charged pauses mid-conversation. Matching delicately drowsy vocals with oscillating organs, and looped drums with an endearingly retro groove, the Arthur Russell-indebted outfit carefully walk the line between breezy ambience and restless tempos.
Ella Margolin’s video, premiering below, is a hyperactive video collage, splicing fanciful American Dream ideals with brilliantly clipped live footage. Perfect nonsense for the perfect track.
The video below features strobing images.
