Beat the January blues with Safe Bets Wednesdays!

The Christmas hype has died down, everyone’s broke – but luckily, London’s CLEAN and Polly are teaming up to save January by exposing some of the freshest new acts around. ‘Safe Bets Wednesdays’ is the series of weekly gigs taking place at the Sebright Arms – and to celebrate the talent on display, we’ve asked each artist from every week to nominate their favourite joyous tunes to help you get through the worst month of the year. Catch Honey LungSpang SistersSquid and Jae Tyler this Wednesday 17th – and listen to their top picks below:

SWAMP DOGG – ‘THE WORLD BEYOND’:
“A dystopian fable of a curious, young African-American boy.”

DEVO – ‘SHRIVEL UP’:
“A jaunty tune for all the raisins out there.”

ALTON & HORTENSE ELLIS – ‘LORD DELIVER US’:
Siblings doing a duet. How lovely – the perfect kind of harmony.”

JAE TYLER

VELLY JOONAS – ‘STOPP, SEISKU AEG!’
“This track is by our favorite Estonian librarian, Ms. Velly Joonas. Great blend of raggae violin, and a cold, satellite state sentiment to shake your bum to.”

ELLI & JACNO – ‘CHICA CHICA BONGO’
“This song is called Chica Chica Bongo by Elli & Jacno… ‘Nuff said.”

ESG – ‘DANCE’
“This is an all woman Brooklyn band, also from the 80’s called ESG. Check it, shake it…”

GEORGE CLINTON – ‘ATOMIC DOG’
“Just to show a little love for the bepenised gender, we got the Prime Minister of funk himself, George Clinton, starting the third world war of nastiness with ‘Atomic Dog’.

JANET JACKSON – ‘RHYTHM NATION’
“And finally, the queen of them all Ms. Janet Jackson to unite us all with Rhythm Nation. The best.”
