Previously only heard as the concrete pillar holding up their intense live set, ‘The Last Hangman’ is the new single from London upstarts Hotel Lux.
Lyrically inspecting the morality of the UK’s (supposed) last hangman Albert Pierrepoint, an increasingly sinister riff backs a surprisingly calm vocal, retaining composure up until the final minute when the throbbing bassline finally succeeds in pulling the rest of the track into chaos. Knife-edge synths and unhinged drumming are let loose, guided by the only leash of control left – the repetitive riff which began the entire deranged episode.
Like a walk to the gallows, Hotel Lux toe a morbid line of mayhem that leave listeners numb.
