When you’re gathering attention from BBC Radio 6 and Spotify, you know you’ve got a good thing going – so we’re absolutely delighted to premiere the latest banger from Wrexham quartet Kidsmoke.
‘Seabirds’ is the fourth single taken from the group’s third and latest EP, Save Your Sorrow. Showcasing Kidsmoke’s broader creative abilities via a brief departure from their usual indie-pop sound, all 4 minutes of ‘Seabirds’ are carefully crafted – right down to the last drops of reverb and the final thrums of west-coast vibes.
On the song’s inspiration, songwriter/bassist James Stickels says: “I was listening to a lot of War on Drugs’ ‘Lost in the Dream’ at the time; I wanted a chorus that opened up like Radiohead’s 1996 version of ‘Lift'”.
Recorded at Orange Sound Recording Studio with Russ Hayes (Catfish & the Bottlemen), ‘Seabirds’ is definitely Kidsmoke’s most ambitious release to date. Watch the accompanying video directed by guitarist Sophie Ballamy below – and join the Kidsmoke hype:
