River Matthews is the kind of artist that makes you feel all fuzzy and warm inside. Of course, because his music is emotive, affecting and ridiculously heartwarming. But also, because of his journey to this point. His early work teaching music to children with learning difficulties shows what kind of a bloke this guy is. So we like him already.
We’re not the only ones. His latest single ‘Stars’ has been championed by Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2, who also had him in to play live earlier this week. He’s also sporting a packed out tour schedule including shows at The Great Escape, Boardmasters, Cambridge Folk Fest and a headline show at St Pancras Old Church. You only have to listen to ‘Stars’ to instantly see what all the fuss is about. Vocally it’s one of the most distinctive tracks i’ve heard for a long time, leaning on the styles of Ben Howard & Jeff Buckley but with an entirely unique quality. I can also confirm that the full EP ‘Sunshine’ is pretty special as well so keep an eye out for that.
Check this one out if you’re having a stressed one in the office. It’s a big audible hug.
