What’s New? 11.01.17 (Declan McKenna, JW Ridley, The Proper Ornaments)

What’s New? brings you 3 new tracks for essential listening every week.

Declan McKenna – The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home

“I don’t know what I want if I’m completely honest” are the first words sung in this unsurprisingly brilliant single from the teenage deep-thinker that is Declan McKenna, fittingly as being completely honest is his strong suit. Melancholy and upbeat with an unusual solo from a member of the children’s choir at the end, sublime.

JW Ridley – Everything (Deathless)

The latest release from Speedy Wunderground and produced by Dan Carey, ‘Everything (Deathless)’ is certainly a song title that struck me, and luckily the track did too. Like a post-punk track with the volume turned down, the track rattles along with distorted guitars and unstoppable force, but with an almost muted, subtle and totally glorious production. And this is only part 1.

The Proper Ornaments – Bridge By A Tunnel

This new track from The Proper Ornaments is like a pleasant and gentle stroll, soft drums and smooth vocals with no bumps in the road or record is ideal afternoon listening. Although not lyrically outlandish, the band have exemplified the term “less is more”. Excited to see if upcoming album Foxhole delivers more of the same.
