Off the Record, Manchester’s latest festival offering, introduced us, here at Too Many Blogs, to an abundance of brilliant new up-and-coming artists; electronic hip-hop London trio, Strong Asian Mothers, are firmly now one of our new favourites.
‘Sober’, inspired by an overheard argument, throws you right into the narrative of a woman despising her drunken antics; it’s dark and brooding, lo-fi and menacing. The combination of sultry vocals, effortless drumming, and mad synth skills really is what this trio does best.
May’s ironically titled debut, Lynx Africa, gave us a sense of the band’s charisma which is tangible onstage. Expect more electro-pop brilliance from Strong Asian Mothers throughout the next few months; if they’re one of our favourites, they should be one of yours too.
Catch Strong Asian Mothers at their headline London show at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen on the 30th November. Grab your tickets here: http://communionmusic.seetickets.com//event/strong-asian-mothers/hoxton-square-bar-kitchen/1018243
