Some musicians simply have an aura, a style, a unique sound that makes them instantly recognisable. Not everyone has it, but when you hear it for the first time, it’s something you will never forget. The sensation created by Matt Maeson’s sparse instrumentation and uplifting vocal is like nothing else. A chorus to raise your spirits, get excited about this guy.
This debut single is surely the first step of Maeson’s expansive journey into a new world. Growing up, Matt toured with his parents – two reformed teenage outlaws who played in a religious heavy metal band – but didn’t allow Matt to listen to rock on the radio. He travelled far and wide playing in strange locations from high-security prisons to Hell’s Angels rallies. Maybe ‘Cringe’ is the start of a new lease of life for Maeson, before his debut EP Who Killed Matt Maeson? is released early next year.
